2006
The beginning
Setfords is founded by Guy Setford as a traditional law firm based in Guildford, Surrey. Inspired by how technology and new, disruptive business models are revolutionising other sectors, he begins to sketch out a new kind of law firm offering greater flexibility for lawyers.
2009
Pioneering a new way of working
In 2008, Setfords becomes the first nationwide full service law firm to launch a consultancy model. By 2009, Guy is joined by cousin Chris Setford, and the platform law firm is born. As joint CEOs, the pair invest heavily in technology and a dedicated support team.
2013
Success breeds success
Setfords has seen double-digit growth since introducing its platform law firm model to the UK legal sector. The company moves into bigger offices, and has 75 consultants. Turnover will double over the next three years.
2016
The next chapter
Setfords celebrates its 10th anniversary with 160 consultant lawyers connected to its platform. Expansion continues and the firm opens offices in the heart of London’s legal district in Chancery Lane, branded as Setfords London.
2024
Fuelling growth
In 2021, Setfords attracted Private Equity funding to fuel further growth and investment in new, cutting edge technology. The firm moved into a new HQ with a bistro, gym and state-of-the-art facilities. Today, more than 500 consultant lawyers are connected to the revolutionary platform, and continued investment is fuelling our growth plans for the future.
